JUDITH SAH
“My family is near extinction today due to the crisis. I have lost 5 family members - My two brothers shot by stray bullets, my father and sister of blood pressure due to continuous gun shots and my sister’s husband due to lack of money to take care of his health” recounts Judith with tears in her eyes.
Judith Sah, 47years old, an IDP, a widow and a mother of 3 children and 2 grandchildren is a true example of somebody affected by the war in North West and South West region of Cameroon. The continuous confrontations between the military and NSAG (Non-State Armed Group) in Belo in Boyo Division made her to flee to Fundong in Boyo division abandoning everything she owned except for some few dresses. While in Fundong her brother’s house was burnt and with no place to go to she and her children left for Bamenda Mezam Divison this time with nothing except for the dresses on them. They did not have anybody in Bamenda to stay with yet they had to leave or die. Upon arrival in Bamenda, they stayed on the streets for somedays before a family member rescued them to his house.
As a small-scale trader in Belo, she had a normal life without any exigencies. I was able to carter for my family and send my grandchildren to school but with the war things changed. I became a beggar, an idle and frustrated woman”. She said. They barely eat a meal a day and could not take any major decision or contribute financially to support in the functioning of their host home. Today, the story has changed, she is now a big farmer in gardening and poultry through the trainings and start up materials SHUMAS offered her. Presently, she sells vegetables and fowls. She is also engaged in brooding day-old chicks.
“I don’t know how to show appreciation and gratitude to SHUMAS and MANOS UNIDAS for their aid. I consider the donations as an opportunity to start a new life for my children and I.
