The Burden No Child Should Carry
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is a heavy burden that no primary school student should ever have to carry. When a child experiences or witnesses violence, their classroom stops being a place of wonder and becomes a place of fear. They may struggle to focus on their lessons, their grades may drop, and they often feel isolated or afraid. This “silent shadow” harms their developing minds and can steal away their bright future. Every child deserves a safe home and a peaceful school environment to truly reach their full potential.
Education as a Shield
Education remains our most powerful tool to break this cycle of pain and fear. That is why SHUMAS recently visited primary schools in Kumbo and Batibo for special sensitization sessions, speaking directly with learners about their rights and personal safety. The children were reminded that they have rights and that violence is never their fault.
By engaging them early, we are giving young learners the confidence and voice they need to stand up for themselves and support their friends. Knowledge becomes the shield that protects our children from the hidden dangers of GBV.
Building a Safer Tomorrow
Our work in Kumbo and Batibo marks the beginning of a broader movement to safeguard children across our communities. When we teach children about respect, boundaries, and how to seek help, we are laying the foundation for a kinder and more responsible generation.
Let us join hands to ensure every boy and girl knows how to stay safe and access support when needed. Protecting our children today means building a more peaceful world for tomorrow.
