At #SHUMAS, inclusion has always been at the heart of our humanitarian work. As part of our commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind, SHUMAS had the privilege of participating in a three-day training on #Mainstreaming #Disability #Inclusion in #Humanitarian Action, held from 30 June to 2 July 2026. The training was organized by #ALIMA in partnership with #CBM.
The training brought together humanitarian actors, national and international NGOs, and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) to strengthen knowledge and practical skills for implementing disability-inclusive humanitarian programmes. Participants explored key topics including the use of the Washington Group Short Set (WG-SS) for disability-disaggregated data collection, inclusive needs assessments, accessible feedback and complaint mechanisms, humanitarian coordination, and sector-specific approaches to disability inclusion in #Health, #Protection, #WASH, and other humanitarian sectors.
One of the most powerful messages from the training was the principle, "Nothing About Us Without Us," which underscores the importance of the meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in every stage of humanitarian action, from assessment and planning to implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
While #SHUMAS has consistently championed inclusive programming, this training has further strengthened our technical capacity by equipping our team with practical tools and evidence-based approaches to enhance the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of our interventions. These enhanced capacities will help ensure that persons with disabilities continue to access humanitarian assistance with dignity, equity, and without barriers.
#SHUMAS extends its sincere appreciation to #ALIMA and #CBM for organizing this timely and impactful training and for their continued commitment to advancing disability-inclusive humanitarian action in the North-West Region of Cameroon.
#Together, we reaffirm our commitment to delivering humanitarian assistance that is inclusive, equitable, and truly leaves no one behind.
